The Finges Woods (Pfynwald in German) is one of the largest pine forests in Central Europe. It is located in the Rhône Valley and marks the border between the French-speaking and German-speaking parts of Valais. It is a nature reserve of national importance, home to an exceptional wealth of species.

The Pfyn-Finges Regional Nature Park covers much more than just the Finges Woods. It stretches from Gampel to Sierre, from an altitude of 500 metres along the Rhône river to around 4100 metres.

This exceptional biotope is of course very fragile and highly protected. Environmental protection associations maintain and monitor it. Don't be surprised if a 'ranger' follows you around, just to make sure you respect the area.

Signposted trails lead to the most interesting spots in the protected area and provide information on the flora and fauna, as well as on protection measures.

The Nature and Landscape Centre is located in the wine-growing village of Salquenen (Salgesch), a few kilometres from the forest. It houses a reception and information area, an exhibition space and a specialist library.
